We had to pay for staying there overnight, but it was a lovely peaceful place to stay for our first night on the broads. And the wild life was amazing.
Second night: Thurne mouth. We threw a mud weight out in Wroxham broad and ate our lunch swinging round with the wind. We then headed to Thurne mouth and attempted to moor in the way the other boats were moored, but the wind had changed. The owner of the boat next to us and his wife appeared and asked us to throw them the ropes. They helped us turn around and pulled us in. When we thanked them it became clear it was self preservation - a couple in a large rented boat coming straight at them in difficult conditions - no brainer!
Third night: Neatishead.
A narrow branch of the river with a narrow staithe at the end. We handled it like professionals, driving down, using the ropes to turn the boat and tie up in the corner to the sound of applause. We used the first of our disposable BBQs on the gravel beside the mooring to cook up a storm.
Late in the evening Graham helped a couple of large boats full of blokes find their way to moorings they couldn't see from the end of the staithe. They were very grateful as it was a long slow journey back to anywhere else! Fortunately everyone was gone in the morning when we found we were stuck in the mud and took some time to get going.
Fourth night: Weyford Bridge. We had lunch at Ludham Bridge, (free wifi) then headed back up river to moor up at Weyford Bridge. Two drinks at the pub there gave us time to charge up the phone and Ann's camera - we can't charge our gadgets onboard.
(OK Graham, you can breathe out now.)
Fifth night: Just outside Richardson's boat yard near Stalham. The boat yard is huge, but we found a cute spot on the way in. We did some shopping at the Tesco and found wifi at the pub for the price of a drink. Next morning Graham practised his stern mooring in the boatyard and we topped up the water.
;-) Ann-a-Gram
