And Graham looked as though he had never left! Right at home, he was.
We were up bright and early next morning, with a taxi booked for 7.15 to take us to the Charing Cross station to catch a train to Dover. The station was really quiet, which we put down to it being early Sunday morning, but then we looked at the screens and found there were no trains running due to line maintenance! After a few moments of panic we were told we could purchase a ticket, take the underground, then walk to another station to catch the train. This meant much lugging of bags, now including the suitcase we had left in LA, up and down stairs and streets, but we did manage to catch the train ok.
When we reached Dover we found we had just missed the ferry we had hoped to catch, and only P&O of the four ferry companies took foot passengers so we had to wait for an extra hour and a half. We found that our passports had to be stamped and our bags x-rayed, all new since Graham was here last, 9/11 influence again no doubt.
As you can see, the white cliffs of Dover were rather shrouded in grey for our crossing. For the France end of the day, watch this space! Seems like we have free wifi in Paris!
