Tourists in Paris

The weather has been lousy for the last couple of days, but it hasn't stopped us from doing all, well most, of the big tourist attractions in Paris. We bought a two day pass for the underground, buses and trains and made very good use of it.

First stop was the Louvre. We didn't know that it was palace for almost 700 years before it became a museum. The size of it is amazing.

This is just a small portion of it. We were so overwhelmed by the thought of trying to figure out where to go and what to see that we decided to find the key sites and then figure out what to revisit the next day.

We walked for ages through gardens full of statues, many of which had been there since the 1800s. There were also all sorts of beggars/scams going on. Graham was almost duped by a woman who supposedly found a gold ring, gave it to him for good luck and then returned asking for money for food. Two minutes later Ann replied "yes" to being asked if she spoke English to be given a begging note. Over the course of the two days, three women miraculously discovered gold rings beside Graham, and we were asked many times if we spoke English, to which we learnt the correct answer was "non!"

We made it through the crowd to the next major landmark. The traffic does not look as crazy here as it seemed to us. Still wouldn't want to try to drive around it!

We walked up and down the Champs Elyees. Graham was keen to have a glass of champagne there but the cold and wind kept us walking.
